THE PUBLIC GARDENS IN CIVITANOVA MARCHE

Civitanova Marche is not only a cheerful town with ìbeaches and sunî, but, it is also a centre that offers to the tourist who loves quite and relax moments, many pleasant options to the sea or after a sunny day spent at the beach.

 

In the town, there are about 30 hectares of green spaces and equipped gardens where you can spend your free time in relax. People who love sports can choose to go jogging along the two cycle tracks, besides the beach.

 

The cycle track along the Chienti river has a funny and comfortable path with benches, relax areas and childrenís play area (the entry is in stadium zone). At the present time it has been built the first part, while the second part is under construction. When the cycle will be finished, it will join Civitanova Marche to Montecosaro, a near municipality.

 
A town to live with all the family

1 - Roller rink: in the crossing between Via Cornia and Via Zavatti, there is a modern roller rink. The floor is made with a material that is suitable for sport events and assuring the enjoyment of sportsmen and amateurs. Near it, in a short time, will be built a skating rink.
 
 
2 - Town Library: it is situated in v.le Matteotti. In its inner, there is a children space where they can choose among more of 3000 books. During autumn and winter seasons, reading and meeting are organized for children and young people.
 
 
3 - The Piermanni Seaside: the South Seaside is enriched by large and green spaces, public gardens and equipped green areas. Thanks to its slides, swings, roundabouts and wood castles, children can enjoy and be cheerful.
 
 
4 - Playgrounds in every quarter: each area offers large and green spaces, football fields, tennis courts and games for children. (See the itinerary: Civitanova and its gardens).
 
 
5 - Harbour for motor trawlers and pleasure crafts: the fish market of Civitanova Marche is one of the most important fish markets in the Adriatic Sea. Wandering around the harbour, you can see modern fishing boats and the classical "vongolare" (boats for clams). During summer season you can admire elegant boats in suitable wharves.
 
 
6 - Cycle track: coming from the north entry of Corso Umberto, get over the underpass of Via C. Rossi and the traffic lights of S.S. 16 and take via Civitanova. After about 100 metres, on the left side, you will find the entry of the cycle track, that, with its 2,8 Km. joins the sea to the hill. The beautiful cycle-pedestrian track is the place and the occasion to spend a day in the open air: adults can enjoy thanks to a good promenade or a refreshing running, while children can freely run, or play cycle. Along the track you can find rest stop with benches, waste bin and games.
 
 
7 - The Park of Villa Conti: it i san enchanted place where you can rest, promenade, read a book, and moreover, play.
 
 
8 - The Botanical Garden: in the garden of "Istituto ITC Corridoni", situated in Civitanova Marche Alta, you can admire rare and interesting plants coming from far-off countries.
 
 
9 - The "Trotto and Racecourse Museum";: from the Adriatic national road, between the population centers of Porto Potenza and Civitanova Marche, take via M. Ricci and continue for about 2 km. until you can see the park of the Racecourse, on the left side. The "Historic Trotto Museum", under the managing of captain Ermanno Mori, collects every kind of material that concern the world of the horses. The structure is situated near the studs , today perfectly renovated, moreover, near it, there is the race-track. In the structure, it is collected a great quantity of material -relics, publications, iconographic documents - coming from national territory and also from foreign countries, that regards the world of the trot, from its birth.
 
10 - Art and Popular Tradition Museum: it is situated in Civitanova Alta, in Via Centofiorini, below the public garden of Pincio. It was inaugurated in 1992 and you can visit it after a telephonic booking (0733.890258). It is a private museum founded by Pietro Pepa who has realized this testimony of the pastevery-day life, thanks to its passion and patience. On the ground floor you can see the reconstruction of the blacksmith shop, the wood worker shop and the carter shop with the oenological section, the kitchen and the bedroom of a typical country house, means of transports, ploughs, games and several relics. The most important pieces of the collecting are a cart of 1924, a very important twin screw press, an ancient table of the butcher, an oil mill, and, at the moment, there are also the tools of the foundry of Cecchetti factory. In the entry, there is a small collection of pictures of local painters, that remember us the country life of few decades ago.
 
11 - Public swimming pool: when it is too cold top lunge in the crystalline Adriatic Sea, you can swim in the public swimming pool that offers you the opportunity to dive and enjoy with your friends.

Walking trought Civitanova

  1 - Auditorium, ex Church of St. Augustine (Via Sant'Agostino, Civitanova Alta): the primitive Augustinian building of XIV century was reconstructed in the first half of the XVIII century: now, the unique room of the Church is used as exhibition hall, shows and conferences. Here, there is an usable organ of Callido (1771). The canvass of the altars are very significant, overall the three works of Pietro Tedeschi (first years of 1800).
 
  2 - Municipal Art Gallery " M. Moretti", ex Memorial to the war dead and Municipal Historical Record archive (Corso A. Caro, Civitanova Alta): the Art Gallery and the Record archive are guests in the native Home of Anibal Caro (1507-1566), a cultured man of the Renaissance. In the picture collection there are mainly graphical works of XX century and the collection of documents contains parchments and papers from XIII to XIX century. It is important to see the Augustinian "Processional Standard",on canvas, a work of Baldo de' Sarofini from Perugia (first years of XVI century). The ex Memorial is under reconstruction at the moment.
 
  3 - Municipal Historical Theatre "A. Caro" (Corso A. Caro, Civitanova alta): it was opened in 1872 to the precence of the dancer Enrico Cecchetti. It presents two orders of boxes and the gallery. It is necessary to see the significant historic curtain with the "Deification of Anibal Caro" and the historiated portal made of stones in 1480.
 
  4 - Civic Museum, Ex Church of St. Francesco (Largo San Francesco, Civitanova Alta): it is roman building neglected from many decades. From some years it is started a work of restoration and reinforce of the structure undermined by the earthquake in 1997: the bell-tower is a work of Marino Cedrino (1475). In 2006 thee will be the opening as a town museum structure (now it is under reconstruction).
 
5 - Ducal Palace (Piazza della Libertà, Civitanova Alta): the building, which is now a private property, gave hospitality to the representative of the Duke Cesarini, lord of Civitanova and Montecosaro. Inside it, there are works of the second half of XVI century which are attributed to Pellegrino Tibaldi (now under reconstruction).
 
  6 - Municipal Delegation (Piazza della Libertà, Civitanova Alta): inside the ex Town Hall (1867) there are still the Gun Room (ancient guns and swords of XIX century), canvass of XVIII century with mythological figures, pieces of 1880 in the board room, a roman epigraph of III century A.C, etc...
 
  7 - Collegiata Church of Saint Paul Apostle (Piazza della Libertà, Civitanova Alta): it preserves an organ of Callido and a canvass, "La Natività della Vergine" of the first years of XVII century. In the Chapel of san Marone there are the relics of the Arm of San Marone. There is also the c.d. 2Miraculous crucifix of the ex Memorial to the war dead (now under reconstruction).
 
  8 - Centofiorini Portal (Via Duca d'Aosta, Civitanova Alta):it is a beautiful historiated portal of XVI century built with stones. It needs a radical restoration.
 
9 - "Centofiorini" Art Gallery (Via N. Sauro, Civitanova Alta): it was built in 1979 due to the actions of two privates. It is a significant artistic and cultural meeting place from more than a quarter of a century.
 
  10 - Tramvia Station (Via F. Corridoni, Civitanova Alta):it was built in a Liberty style in 1911-1912 for the opening of the tram line that joined the Harbour to the High City (it is now under reconstruction).
 
  11 - Porta Marina (Piazzale G. Garibaldi, Civitanova Alta): Already named Porta Sant'Angelo, it looks toward east, to the sea (near the battlement, it is dated 1442). At the top of it, there is a characteristic cypress-tree.
 
  12 - Church of Holy Sacrament (Piazzale G. Garibaldi, Civitanova Alta): the recent restoration has showed the ancient frescus which are behind the modern plaster. It is the seat of the confraternity of the Holy Sacrament; it is interesting to admire the ancient canvas of Santa Maria Apparente.
 
  13 - Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli (Traversa Madonna degli Angeli, Civitanova Alta): it presents an altar-piece of XV century. The building was raised at the end of XVII century.
 
14 - Popular Traditions and Arts Museum (Via Centofiorini, Civitanova Alta): it was opened in 1992 thanks to its founder, Pietro Pepa. It is divided into 5 parts (the blacksmith shop, the wood worker shop, the school, the butcher's shop...). Temporarily it guests the Industrial Archaeology "G. Manni" Collection dedicated to the ex Cecchetti Factory-SGI (it is opened on request).
 
  15 - Trot Historic Museum (Asola Quarter, Civitanova alta): there is a private collection of the Captain Ermanno Muri that includes finds of harness racing, a library and a data bank on this subject.
 
  16 - Villa Conti (San Michele Quarter, Civitanova Alta): it is an elegant villa of the second half of XIX century (now it is a property of the Church). It is interesting to visit the Park with the gallop, the Neo-Gothic Church and the beautiful small Villa of 1910 in Liberty Style.

1 - Sanctuary of Santa Maria Apparente ( Via del Torrione, Santa Maria Apparente): it is situated in the place where the Virgin appeared to Vico Salimbene, a shepherd buy, on 5th July 1411. The water in the well near the Church was considered miraculous to warrant the milk to pregnant women.
 
 
2 - Sforza Palace (XX Settembre Square, Civitanova Porto): it was raised by the Duke Sforza Cesarini in 1862 and it is situated on the ground works of the ancient fortress of the Middle Ages. It was built to control the goods wharf yard of the port. Renovated in 1999, it is now the Municipal Building.
 
 
3 - Church of S.S Peter and Marone (XX Settembre Square, Civitanova Porto): it was built in the middle of XIX century and thanks to the last restorations, it presents on its front the statues of the two Saints.
 
 
4 - Buildings in Liberty Style (Lido Cluana, Civitanova Porto): recently renovated, they was built in the middle of 1930's in the old seaside (now, it is withdrawn of about 100 metres).
 
 
5 - Public Library "S. Zavatti" (Viale Vittorio Veneto, Civitanova Porto): it was built on 4th May 1969 and now sitated on the ex buildings of Casa del Balilla (1933-1935), it is a work of the architect Adalberto Libera. In front of the library, there is Cecchetti square with the work dedicated from the artist Brattini to Enrico Cecchetti, a famous choreographer.
 
 
6 - War Memorial (Largo Italia, Civitanova Porto): it is an imposing and significant work built in 1970 by Giovanni Masoero, a sculptor of Tourin.
 
 
7 - Sanctuary of san Marone (San Marone Square, Civitanova Porto): it is van early Christian Church, but it was renovated at the end of XIX century. Under the Altar there is the body of San Marone, Apostle and Protomartyr of Piceno (I century B.C:) and Patron Saint of Civitanova. He is celebrated on 18 th August with a Procession and fireworks displays in Civitanova alta. Inside the temple, there are archaeological finds.

1 - War Memorial (Largo Italia): it i san important and significant piece carved by the sculptor Giovanni Masoero from Turin (1970).

 

2 - The Piermanni Seaside ( South Seaside): there is a pleasure beach with sand and gravel. A gentle breeze ripples deep water. The seaside is enriched by public gardens and large green spaces equipped with cheerful games for children. Thank to its coloured flowers, brooms and pal-trees, the South Seaside is the ideal place to relax and to promenade pleasantly.

3 - Lido Cluana: Splendid buildings in liberty style perfectly renovated

4 - XX Settembre Square: in 1862, Sforza Palace was built with bricks by the duke Sforza Cesarini in the area of the historic fortress of the XV century. It was built near the sea in order to control the dock. The palace is characterized by its stateliness and its neo-classic style, with Renaissance designs. In the first years of XX century, Sforza Palace gave hospitality to a pasta factory and in 1920 it became the municipal building.
